Sam Horsfield birdied his first three holes Saturday at TPC Sawgrass' Players Stadium course to help him grab the 36-hole lead at the AJGA Junior Players Championship.

Horsfield, a Florida commit, totaled five birdies on the day en route to a 3-under 69. At 4 under, Horsfield leads Austin Connelly, Brad Dalke, Kristian Caparros, Will Chandler and Hidetoshi Yoshihara by two shots.

Connelly was tied for the lead after birdieing the par-3 17th for the second straight day. But Horsfield responded with a birdie at the par-4 18th while Connelly bogeyed the finishing hole.

Horsfield, already a Florida State Amateur champion, is searching for his first AJGA invitational victory. Connelly won the FootJoy Invitational in June while Dalke is a three-time AJGA invitational champion.

Andy Zhang, Will Grimmer, Nathan Jeansonne and Zach Bauchou are all within four shots of the lead.
