Tracker: Tiger cards 70, Gallacher takes lead in Dubai

Tiger Woods during the third round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Tiger Woods failed to make a charge on Moving Day at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, carding a 2-under 70 to enter Sunday tied for 37th at 5 under.

For Stephen Gallacher, though, that was far from the case. The defending champion shot 9-under 63 capped by a 9-under 28 on the back nine, which tied a European Tour nine-hole record. More importantly, Gallacher, at 16 under overall, now has a two-shot lead over second-round leader Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy, playing in the final group with Brooks Koepka, shot 69. Koepka finished with a 70 and is tied for third with Thorbjorn Olesen at 12 under.

Hole No. 17: Par 4, 359 yards

Off the tee: A hole-in-one here would net Tiger $2.5 million. Perhaps that extra incentive influenced Tiger's club choice here as Woods goes with driver. The result isn't an ace, though, as Tiger's drive ends up just short of the green.

Approach shot: Tiger's chip ends up about 5 feet away.

On the green: The birdie putt doesn't fall, however, and Tiger ends up with par.

• • •

Hole No. 13: Par 5, 550 yards

Second shot: Tiger finds another greenside bunker as he's short with his second shot.

Third shot: His third shot doesn't end up particularly close, but Tiger will still have a birdie putt coming up.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under through 13 holes (5 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Dawie Van Der Walt birdies the 18th to wrap up a 7-under 65. At 9 under, he's two shots back of leader Rory McIlroy, who tees off along with Brooks Koepka in just more than an hour.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under through 11 holes (4 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 10: Par 5, 549 yards

Off the tee: Tiger goes with driver and misses right. This one found the desert.

Second shot: Tiger still has a shot at the green in two here, but he misses just short of the green, finding a greenside bunker.

Third shot: Tiger splashes out to about 5 feet.

On the green: The best part of Tiger's game so far today has been his putting. He needed just 12 putts on the front nine, and he needs just one here as he sinks the birdie putt.

Off the tee: That last birdie was big as it gets Tiger back to even for the day. Remember, Tiger bogeyed the sixth on Friday. Now at the seventh, Tiger's tee ball finds the putting surface.

On the green: Woods can't convert the birdie opportunity and he settles for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: Even through 7 holes (3 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 6: Par 4, 485 yards

Off the tee: Tiger finds the middle of the fairway with driver.

On the green: The par putt doesn't drop and Tiger ends up with bogey.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 over through 3 holes (2 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 2: Par 4, 351 yards

Off the tee: That was a nice par save by Woods, who finds the front greenside bunker off the tee on this short par 4.

Approach shot: From the greenside bunker, Tiger blasts out to a little more than 10 feet.

On the green: Tiger pulls out the flatstick for the first time today and misses the birdie putt. He then makes the par putt.
