Stephen Gallacher during the final round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Stephen Gallacher got off to a slow start in Sunday's final round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. But in the end, the Scot held onto his lead, making a 3-footer for par on the 18th to wrap up an even-par 72 and successfully defend his title at Emirates Golf Club.

Gallacher, who is the first back-to-back winner in the tournament's 25-year history, finished at 16 under, a shot clear of Emiliano Grillo, who eagled his final hole to cap a final-round 66.

Rory McIlroy, who was two shots back entering the day, struggled to a 74 to finish at 12 under. American Brooks Koepka, who had a chance to grab a share of the lead entering the 18th, tied for third at 14 under.
