Woods: Honda Classic in, WGC Match Play out
Thursday, February 6, 2014
Tiger Woods announced via his website Thursday that his next three tournaments are set – with the Honda Classic near his Jupiter, Fla., home among three "Florida Swing" events he'll play. The WGC-Accenture Match Play, meanwhile, is out.
Also in for Woods' run in his adopted home state are the WGC-Cadillac Championship at recently renovated Doral and the Arnold Palmer Invitational near his former Windermere, Fla., home.
Woods' Jupiter Island home base is not far from the Honda Classic's home course in Palm Beach Gardens. When girlfriend and skiier Lindsey Vonn was forced by an injury to skip the 2014 Winter Olympics, which Woods had planned to attend, it eliminated what would have been a tight travel window between the Olympics and the Honda Classic – and gave him time to "stay home and prepare for the Florida tournaments," he said.
"The Honda Classic is close to my home, and I want to support it whenever I can," Woods said in a blog post on his website. "We have a Learning Center at Murray Middle School in Stuart, [Fla.], and this event does so much to help the community, including the efforts of the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation."
Woods also said he looks forward to "spending time with Arnold" while defending his Palmer Invitational title and is "looking forward to seeing what they've done at Doral."
