Bad thumb blister leads Couples to likely missed cut

Starting in 1982, Couples has played when it as called the Glen Campbell-Los Angeles Open, the Los Angeles Open, the Los Angeles Open presented by Nissan, Nissan Los Angeles Open, Nissan Open and now the Northern Trust Open.
In those 31 times, “Boom Boom” has won twice in 1990 and 1992, missing only three cuts.
Appearance No. 32 was not as kind to Couples, with a small cut on his left thumb developing into a large blister – the biggest factor in Couples shooting consecutive 72s and will likely miss only his fourth cut at Hogan’s Alley.
“I couldn’t hit the ball,” Couples said after signing his scorecard.
Playing competitor Jordan Spieth described the injury as a giant circle around his thumb, almost like you could see into his thumb.
“Freddie's thumb is messed up, and without a glove, too,” Spieth said “I don't know if he said anything about it. I doubt he did, but it was messed up.”
