Michigan wins Big Ten Match Play in playoff

The eighth seed Michigan Wolverines defeated Purdue in a five-man sudden-death playoff to claim the Big 10 Match Play Championship.

Michigan’s Chris O’Neill and Noori Hyun, and Purdue’s Austin Eoff and Philippe Schweizer won matches for their respective team for the championship. Michigan’s Reed Hrynewich and Purdue’s Sam Fu halved their match.

Northwestern defeated Iowa 3-2-0 to take third place.

In the morning matches, Michigan defeated Iowa 3-1-1 to advance to the championship match, and Purdue knocked off Northwestern, 4-1-0.
