San Diego State squeaks out win at Jones Sports

San Diego State squeaked out a victory Tuesday at the Jones Sports Invitational over USC at Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.

The Aztecs shot 17-over 881, one shot ahead of the Trojans. San Diego placed third at 24-over 888. BYU finished another 12 shots back, and Cal State Fullerton rounded out the top 5 at 42 over.

San Diego State’s Riccardo Michelini (second), Xander Schauffele (fourth), Ricky DeSantis (T-6) and Austin Kaiser (T-6) placed among the top 6.

USC’s Anthony Paolucci won medalist honors after birdieing the 18th hole for a final-round 73 to complete an even-par 216 total. Paolucci was tied for first heading into the final round with Michelini, who closed with 74 for a 217 total. San Diego’s Grant Forrest, who was looking for his second consecutive individual victory, finished third at 2-over 218.
