Hess, Dean pull upset to win Southern States Four-Ball

Robert Hess, a veterinarian from Winter Park, Fla., and Roger Dean, a used-car dealer from Ormond Beach, Fla., pulled an upset Sunday to win the senior-division title at the Southern States Four-Ball.

The pair defeated the duo of 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur champion Doug Hanzel and former PGA Tour player Buzz Fly at the Old Trail Course at Jonathan's Landing in Jupiter, Fla. Hess sank a 9-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole after both teams completed regulation at 9-under 135.

Mike Weeks of Jupiter and Scott Wilson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., won the mid-amateur division with a 10-under 134 total. Jupiter's Patrick McCabe and Palm Beach Gardens' Bill Luceno won the super-senior division.

The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after inclement weather wiped out play Friday.
