Golfers race golf carts around Formula 1 circuit
Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey and Matteo Manassero got to experience a Formula 1 racing circuit firsthand earlier this week in Abu Dhabi.
But instead of racing around Yas Marina Circuit at speeds close to 200 mph, the foursome instead took to the track in golf carts.
And yes, it was as funny as it sounds (You can watch video of the competition above).
“When the golf carts chugged out from the pit lanes, I couldn’t help but laugh as we were about to race round a track accustomed to F1 cars, rather than carts that max out at 15 mph,” Manassero said. “Having visited the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix before, I had a vague idea of the circuit. But it’s a bit different when you’re actually down there on the track.”
Donald won the qualifying portion before defeating his European Tour counterparts in an actual race.
“I’m so proud, humbled and excited," Donald said. "What a race, what a day. I think I had the weight advantage – the other guys eat too much.
“Hopefully, this is the start of many good things to come.”
We're not sure how golf-cart racing translates to success on the golf course, but if anything, Donald definitely wasn't a culprit of slow play – or on second thought, he was racing a golf cart.
