Masters, USGA and R&A team up for new amateur event
The Masters Tournament, the R&A and the USGA have teamed up for an amateur championship for Latin America, according to GolfDigest.com.
Augusta National chairman Billy Payne, USGA executive director Mike Davis and R&A chief executive Peter Dawson are scheduled to hold a press conference in Buenos Aires on Jan. 22, according to a press release in Spanish from an Argentine agency.
According to Golf Digest’s source, the event will start in January 2015.
This tournament should mimic the Asia-Pacific Amateur, which was introduced in 2009 by the Masters Tournament’s grow-the-game initiative.
It is not known if any exemptions would be given to the winner.
