Anthony Paolucci carded rounds of 6-under 65 and 1-under 70 to help USC take a two-shot lead through two rounds at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
Paolucci recorded eight birdies and an eagle to just three bogeys in his two rounds Monday at Sewailo GC in Tucson, Ariz., and will enter Tuesday's final round at 7 under, two shots clear of Brandon Hagy of Cal.
Rico Hoey and Jeffrey Kang are tied for sixth for the Trojans, who are 4 under as a team and ranked 22nd in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Fourth-ranked Cal sits in second place at 2 under playing its first tournament of the season without Michael Kim, who turned pro during the winter break.
Paolucci will likely soon face a similar decision as Kim did. He earned his 2013-14 PGA Tour Latinoamerica card via Q-School earlier this month. That season begins in mid-February.
New Mexico is third at 12 over while Arizona and BYU are tied for fourth at 13 over.
