Brandt-Richards wins stroke-play medal at Pacific NW
Tuesday, July 8, 2014
Dale Brandt-Richards claimed stroke-play medalist honors Monday at the Pacific Northwest Amateur.
The Australian carded rounds of 64-67 to finish at 9-under 131 and earn the No. 1 seed for match play, which begins with the Round of 64 Tuesday at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. He totaled 10 birdies in two rounds of stroke play.
“This course is pretty similar to some of the sand-built courses down in Melbourne,” Brandt-Richards said. “I really like playing courses where you can hit it long and carry the bunkers off the tee. And I like putting on quick greens, so this feels like home.”
Also advancing to match play was Washington's Tyler Salsbury, who shot 57 last month; former Mercer standout Hans Reimers; Northwestern signee Dylan Wu; and Cal's Clayton Madey and his brother, Cole Madey, a junior golfer from West Linn, Ore.
The match-play final is set for Friday.
