Ha takes one-shot lead over Then at WAPL

Cindy Ha used seven birdies to fire a 5-under 67 on Monday to take a one-shot lead at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.
Ha, who will play at Vanderbilt in the fall, fired her best round in a USGA championship. The New Jersey native isn't unfamiliar with success at the WAPL, having made the match-play quarterfinals in 2013.
“Everything was really solid,” Ha told the USGA. “Tee shots are really important here and I was hitting the fairways with pretty long drives, so I had wedges in. From there, (I was) just hitting them close and making the putts.”
Right on Ha's heels is reigning U.S. Girls' Junior champion, Gabriella Then.
Then had six birdies – including five straight – on her opening nine holes, but a pair of bogeys on the back nine left her with a 68.
A 60-foot chip in on the par-3 14th propelled her to the five consecutive birdies.
"“I thought it gave me a little confidence and got me going for the next couple of holes,” said Then, a soon-to-be sophomore at USC.
Lucy Li, the 11-year-old who played in the U.S. Women's Open, posted a 2-over 74 behind two birdies and four bogeys.
