Florida's Deacon lands first recruit
Wednesday, July 16, 2014
Newly appointed Florida men’s head golf coach J.C. Deacon has landed his first recruit and he’ll be arriving in just a few short weeks to Gainesville.
Deacon and assistant coach John Handrigan recently signed Argentina's top-ranked player, Alejandro Tosti.
“Alejando has competed at the highest levels all over the world with a lot of success and has won many championships,” Handrigan said in a Gators news release. “His experience will be very valuable as he makes the transition to college golf.
“As soon as Alejandro arrives, he will have an immediate impact in our lineup as we prepare for the regular-season tournaments and the SEC and NCAA Championships.”
This news comes a week after two Gators commits – Sam Horsfield and Jorge Garcia – say they remain committed to attending Florida in 2015.
Tosti, No. 150 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, has been a member of the Argentinian national team since 2011.
Tosti will compete in the Porter Cup next week at Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y., and then the Western Amateur Championship the following week at Beverly Country Club in Chicago.
The 17-year-old will join a team that finished 71st in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings in the 2013-14 season.
