No joke: Anchor's hole-in-one nets SUV

Jay Harris of ESPN after a hole-in-one won him a Land Rover SUV during a charity tournament in Las Vegas.

Experience shows that Jay Harris is one of the funniest people you can hope to meet in the sports world. But his recent tweet about a hole in one winning him a car was no joke.

The prize? A 2015 Land Rover Evoque SUV.

Harris, well known as an anchor of ESPN's SportsCenter and frequently a funny man in commercials promoting the show, was taking part in the Coach Michael Woodson Las Vegas Invitational when he sank his tee shot on the 17th hole at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Woodson is an assistant coach for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers. Symetra Tour player Seema Sadekar helps organize the tournament, which benefits Nation of Coaches.

Opting to keep the physical prize over a cash option, Harris let a little of his humor show.

“It’s smaller than my Toyota Highlander, which my 15-year-old son has already asked for – it’s so nice of him to let me keep the new one,” he said.

Also known to drop the occasional one-liner into a public-speaking engagement, Harris received a standing ovation entering the clubhouse bar – but it was Woodson's turn to get a few laughs as he presented the ace achiever with a $550,000 bar tab. Just kidding … this time.
