Jim Furyk's runner-up finish Sunday at the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open helped him rise two spots to second in the U.S. team's Ryder Cup points standings.

It's not just this week that has Furyk's standing so solid. The 44-year-old boasts four top-five finishes in his last seven starts and fifth top-10 finish in his last 10 starts. Including his tie for 20th at the Valspar Championship, Furyk has finished outside the top 20 just once since mid-March.

Furyk clearly would have preferred a win despite his recent consistency.

"You know, I don't really need any validation for how I'm playing. I'm definitely at the moment disappointed just because right now I'm in the scorer's tent. I'll take something positive out of the week, as I was talking to radio before, but I've played good all year whether I've played well here or not," Furyk said. "But I'm definitely disappointed not to get over the hump.

"It's been a long time since I've won, and it stings to finish second again."

Little changed around the bubble for either team, though. Graeme McDowell narrowed his deficit with a T-9 finish in Canada to pass Stephen Gallacher on the World Points list and pull within seven points of Luke Donald for the last qualifying spot.
