Na, Wilson among five added to U.S. Open field Monday
PINEHURST, N.C. – Kevin Na and Bernd Wiesberger have joined the field at the 2014 U.S. Open after jumping into the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of play on Sunday.
Na, ranked No. 40, will make his fourth U.S. Open start, with his best finish at T-29 in 2012 at Olympic Club. This will be Wiesberger's first U.S. Open, with his second-place finish at the European Tour's Lyoness Open helping him jump nine spots in the OWGR to earn the berth.
With five spots being held for potential OWGR movement, three alternates from sectional qualifying were also added to the field.
NCAA individual medalist Cameron Wilson, amateur Brandon McIver and pro Craig Barlow have all been invited to Pinehurst No. 2 as well, completing the field of 156 players.
Wilson was the first alternative from the sectional in Purchase, N.Y., making a birdie on the sixth playoff hole in qualifying to get the spot. Wilson also played in the 2012 U.S. Open.
For Barlow, this will be his sixth U.S. Open, highlighted by a T-26 at Winged Foot in 2006, while also partaking in the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
McIver, a junior at Oregon, was the first alternate from the Creswell, Ore. qualifier and is making his debut in America's national championship.
