Garrett Rank opens 2-shot lead at Monroe Invitational

Garrett Rank shook off a bogey on his first hole Thursday, going 5 under the rest of the way to post a second consecutive 66 for the midway lead in the 74th annual Monroe Invitational.
Rank, 26, of Elmira, Ontario, and a member of Canada's national team, stands at 8-under 132 after 36 holes at Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y. Taylor Pendrith (67), Trevor Sluman (69) and Derek Bard (64) are tied for second at 134.
Defending champion Nick Palladino, who recently graduated from nearby Rochester, slipped with a 73 for a 143 total.
Play continues Friday, with the final round set for Saturday.
