Grant Hirschman grabs Southeastern lead

Grant Hirschman caught fire midway through his second round of the Southeastern Amateur, birdieing six consecutive holes Thursday to shoot 5-under 66 at Columbus (Ga.) Country Club and open a one-stroke lead.

Starting on the back nine, Hirschman made birdies on Nos. 16-18 and then Nos. 1-3 before giving back a stroke on the par-4 seventh hole. Hirschman, an incoming freshman at Oklahoma who is from Collierville, Tenn., stands at 7-under 135.

Charlie Martin (68) of LaGrange, Ga., first-round leader Shad Tuten (71) of Savannah, Ga., and John H. Jonas (67) of Jacksonville, Fla., are tied for second at 6-under 136.

Cody Proveaux (66) of Lexington, S.C., and Corey Carlson (68) of Green Cove Springs, Fla., are tied for fifth at 137.

Emmanuel Kountakis (71) of Martinez, Ga., the winner of last week's Palmetto Amateur, is among seven players tied for eighth at 139.
