Thursday, June 12, 2014
Shad Tuten played bogey-free golf Wednesday at Columbus (Ga.) Country Club to shoot 6-under 65 for the first-round lead in the 85th Southeastern Amateur.
Tuten, of Savannah, Ga., and a recent graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State, leads Mason Seaborn of Montrose, Ala., by one stroke. Seaborn, a rising senior at Louisiana-Monroe, eagled his first hole, the 548-yard par-5 No. 1.
Emmanuel Kountakis, who won last week's Palmetto Amateur, birdied three of his first four holes before playing par golf the rest of the way. He leads a group of six tied at 68: Ben Wolcott, Cates Culpepper, Sepp Straka, Taylor Hancock and Charlie Martin.
The second round starts early Thursday, with play scheduled to conclude Saturday.
