U.S. Open: The equipment counts at Pinehurst
Friday, June 13, 2014
PINEHURST, N.C. – The closest equipment counts at the U.S. Open were in irons, where Titleist edged TaylorMade 35-31, and putters, where Odyssey nosed Titleist 50-47.
Otherwise, it was pretty much business as usual: Titleist dominated golf balls and wedges, TaylorMade topped drivers and fairway woods, Adams won hybrids, and FootJoy swept the shoes and gloves.
It was no surprise that Ping, known as an all-around golf company, emerged as a contender in most categories (third in irons, putters and hybrids; fourth in drivers and fairway woods).
Callaway, in addition to the popularity of its Odyssey putters, was second in fairway woods, third in drivers and fourth in irons and golf balls.
