Ryder Cup: Kaymer to 3rd in World Points

Martin Kaymer during Friday's second round of the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.

Martin Kaymer's chances of making the 2014 European Ryder Cup team were slim before he notched victories at The Players and the U.S. Open. Now, Kaymer is third on the World Points list and in good position to earn a spot on Paul McGinley's squad.

Kaymer was ninth in World Points – and 25th in European Points – after his Players victory. The top four players in European Points and the top five players in World Points not already eligible earn automatic roster spots.

As of right now, the European team would consist of Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson (Euro Points leader), Thomas Bjorn (No. 2 in Euro Points), Henrik Stenson (No. 3 in Euro Points), Jamie Donaldson (No. 4 in Euro Points), Rory McIlroy (No. 2 in World Points), Sergio Garcia (No. 4 in World Points), Luke Donald (No. 7 in World Points) and Justin Rose (No. 8 in World Points).

Ian Poulter is ninth in World Points, but would likely earn one of three captain's picks if teams were selected today.

As for the U.S. side, Rickie Fowler moved from 18th to seventh while Phil Mickelson dropped to 10th. The top nine players automatically qualify for Tom Watson's American squad.
