K.K. Limbhasut cruised to an eight-shot victory at the Western Junior, shooting a final-round 3-under 69 Friday at Flossmoor (Ill.) Country Club.
Limbhasut, an 18-year-old from Loma Linda, Calif., finished at 10-under 278. Nick Hardy of Northbrook, Ill., and Luis Gagne of Orlando, Fla., tied for second at 2-under 286.
“This is probably the biggest event I’ve won," said Limbhasut, who will attend Cal in the fall. "I have a lot of momentum now going into college.”
Limbhasut, who was born in Thailand, led by just two shots entering the final round, but used four birdies to pull away. He was second last week at the FJ Invitational and won the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic in April.
Limbhasut, Gagne and Collin Morikawa all shot course-record 66s in the event, Morikawa carding his in the final round while Limbhasut and Gagne notched theirs in the third round.
