Burns, Brooks take respective leads at Rolex TOC

Sam Burns, No. 12 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, fired a 7-under 65 Wednesday at Richland Country Club in Nashville to take a one-shot, 36-hole lead at the AJGA's Rolex Tournament of Champions.

Burns holds the edge over No. 34 Kyle Sterbinsky (68-67) and No. 22 William Register (67-68). Overnight leaders Justin Kim and Collin Morikawa both fired 71s to drop to T-4, two shots back of the lead.

Texas-bound Doug Ghim is four back at 6 under for the tournament, tied with Nick Hardy and Carl Yuan in seventh.

One shot further back is fifth-ranked Brad Dalke after rounds of 71-68.

Golfweek No. 1 Andy Zhang has struggled to back-to-back 73s and is T-43.

In the girls division, Shannon Brooks has opened up a two-shot lead after a second-round, 2-under 70 Wednesday. Brooks held a one-shot lead overnight, but only two players managed to break 70 in trying to catch Golfweek's 45th-ranked player.

Right behind Brooks are top-ranked Andrea Lee (71-69) and No. 16 Elizabeth Wang (69-71), while No. 13 Mariel Galdiano and No. 12 Robynn Ree are four back.
