BETHESDA, Md. – Members of the U.S. and International teams from the 2013 Presidents Cup visited President Obama on Tuesday night at the White House. They also met vice president Joe Biden and House speaker John Boehner.

Four-time major champion Ernie Els was among players calling the experience “so special.” As it happened, only players were allowed in the Oval Office.

As we learned in grade school, sometimes people bring an authority figure an apple and put it on a desk. The opposite happened in this case.

“We walked around there and Phil Mickelson asked if he could have an apple,” Els reported, laughing. “So the president lost about 20 apples out of his jar. We walked around the Oval Office eating apples and just feeling it. It was wonderful.”
