Langer wins Senior Players in 2-hole playoff

Bernhard Langer collected his third Champions Tour major title Sunday by sinking a short birdie putt on the second playoff hole at the Senior Players Championship.

Langer defeated Jeff Sluman in the playoff on the par-5 18th at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sluman had shot a bogey-free, 5-under 67 as both players finished the 72-hole event at 15-under 265.

The victory also was Langer’s third of the season.

Russ Cochran finished third, one shot out of the playoff at 14-under 266.

Defending champion Kenny Perry was tied with Langer heading into the back nine, but faded with three bogeys and a closing 69. He finished fourth.
