Ten players, including Erik Compton and Brooks Koepka, were officially added to the Open Championship field on Wednesday.

Compton, a two-time heart transplant recipient who recently tied for second at the U.S. Open, along with Koepka, Kevin Stadler, J.B. Holmes, Charles Howell III, Freddie Jacobson, Chesson Hadley, Anirban Lahiri and Scott Stallings, earned their spots in the July 17-20 championship at Royal Liverpool via the Official World Golf Ranking.

According to The Associated Press, the R&A announced the additions to "avoid any confusion" entering the final two weeks of qualifying and that there could be as many as two spots available to players via next week's world ranking.

Doug Ferguson of the AP first reported Tuesday that Compton, Koepka and three others – Jacobson, Howell and K.J. Choi – were in good position to earn Open invites into the 156-player field.

Shawn Stefani, Charley Hoffman, Ben Martin and Brendan Steele earned their Open invites Sunday via their finish at the Quicken Loans National, an Open Qualifying Series event.

Here are the remaining Open Qualifying Series events and how many invites each event gets:

  • Greenbrier Classic, July 3-6: four invites for players T-12 or better.
  • French Open, July 3-6: three invites for players T-10 or better.
  • John Deere Classic, July 10-13: one invite for player T-5 or better.
  • Scottish Open, July 10-13: three invites for players T-10 or better.
