Wake Forest will be one of the handful of east-coast teams to make the cross-country trek for the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic. The tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday at the San Diego (Calif.) Country Club.

Thirtreen teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,033-yard course.

The field includes Cal State-San Marcos, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Saint Joseph's, San Diego, San Diego State (No. 38), Seattle, Southern California (No. 23), UC Irvine, Utah and Wake Forest (No. 34).

The Demon Deacons took eighth place at their first tournament of the spring, the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Freshman Clancy Waugh was the only Wake Forest player in the top 20, but he made it count, winning the tournament at 4 under.

San Diego State took last year's tournament, winning by three strokes over TCU and Arizona State. The Aztecs placed three individuals in the top 10 and finished at even par.
