Freshman Yu Liu bounced back from a late double bogey to win the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on the first playoff hole, leading the Duke Blue Devils to a big win.
Liu topped LSU's Caroline Nistrup after the pair finished at 2 under for the tournament through 54 holes, taking her first win as a college golfer. Sophomore Celine Boutier joined Liu in the top 3, finishing at 1 under at the 6,142-yard, Par 71 Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
All in all, the Blue Devils finished at 10-over 862, beating out Vanderbilt by 10 strokes. Duke beat out five other teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings' top 10 in its wire-to-wire victory, including Stanford, Arizona State and Arkansas.
Oklahoma and LSU finished in a tie for third at 33-over 885 and South Carolina rounded out the top five by finishing at 34-over 886.
Liu started out hot, shooting a 2-under 69 in her first round. She continued that trend to start her final round, making three birdies through the first nine holes. But a bogey on hole No. 13 and a double bogey on 14 pushed the rookie to even par on the round. She responded with a birdie on the 501-yard, par-5 15th to settle into 1 under for the round.
Vanderbilt freshman Simin Feng made a strong push for her second win of the spring, jumping out to 3 under par in the final round through 17. But a bogey on the par-4 18th hole pushed Feng out of a three-way tie for first.
The tournament is Duke's second this spring. The Blue Devils finished runner-up at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, falling to No. 1 USC by seven strokes.
