On March 3, Adidas Golf launched a new line of footwear called the pure 360, which is the next generation of adipure footwear.

Masun Denison, Director, Global Product marketing, Footwear at Adidas Golf, had time to answer a few questions for Golfweek about the new footwear and the future of Adidas Golf.

1. What makes this shoes different/better from the rest?

Adidas as a whole is about innovation and technology. What makes this shoe unique is it’s a classic shoe but there is a lot of technology underneath it. It’s a clean, classic shoe. It’s hard to make a golf shoe look not too sporty, but I believe we’ve done it. It’s traditional, with premium leather. This shoe is a great combination of a classic look with innovation and performance standards met.

2. How is the technology in the pure 360 different from other Adidas golf shoes?

It’s the only shoe in our line and probably in the marketplace with a poured polyurethane midsole sole. Traditionally, high-end shoes have a thick TPU outsole, but this shoe has a thin TPU outsole with poured polyurethane on the inside of it. It’s a huge bed of really soft foam. It has great stability, durability and incredible cushioning.

3. How will this shoe help a golfer through their round?

When you play golf, you walk 6 to 7 miles, depending where you hit it. You’re on your feet a lot. Every step you take, (in the adidas 360 pure) you’ll be on this incredible foam. It’s has center cleated technology. It’s a revolutionary outsole with nine cleats, and a colored band that runs through the shoe for swing plane traction. The center traction is important when you swing, you do need grip in center of the shoe. It’s unique looking but also a of grip.

4. Who else will or has started wearing the pure 360 this year?

Dustin Johnson. He loves the shoe. He’s the hardest guy to get to change his shoes, cause when he likes something, he doesn’t want to change it, but he has made the move. Justin Leonard, Brandt Snedeker, Camilo Villegas, Johnson Wagner and Retief Goosen are also wearing the shoe.

5. How excited is at Adidas Golf about the announcement with USA Golf?

Over the moon. We’re just a bunch of golf geeks. We want to make better apparel for the biggest stage in sport at the summer Olympics. We already started looking at product to come up with the best innovation and technology. To have it on the players at this premium event is great. It’s a chance for golf to be well more known and submit it as a global sport. We’ve always looked at the Olympics as the pinnacle and to test and launch new apparel products and innovation is really cool. We will do apparel and some footwear innovations. It’s a great opportunity and we’re privileged to have it.
