Arizona State opened with a 13-under 271 Friday to take a seven-shot lead at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils got a 9-under 62 from Jon Rahm, the individual leader by three strokes, and a 4-under 67 from freshman Ki Taek Lee as part of its first-round team score. Iowa is second at 6-under 278 while Iowa State is third at 5-under 279.

The teams are wearing green ribbons in honor of Golfweek senior writer Ron Balicki, who is battling cancer.
