Theo Humphrey first started making the trip to Sea Island, Ga., in October 2011 to work with swing instructor Todd Anderson. Before that, Humphrey said he was a self-taught golfer.

Now, the 18-year-old senior at Rye (N.Y.) Country Day School is one of the top junior golfers in the country. He's ranked 20th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and is signed to play at Vanderbilt in the fall.

“I didn’t have the swing," Humphrey said. "It was pretty ugly. Todd can definitely take a lot of the credit for that. He has helped me so much."

Said Humphrey's father, Tom: "Todd has had a tremendous impact on Theo. He has been a great mentor."

Anderson is also the teacher for several PGA Tour players, including Billy Horschel and Brandt Snedeker, who played his college golf at Vanderbilt. Humphrey wouldn't mind joining that list.

“I definitely want this to be my profession,” Humphrey said. “I always dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour.”

Humphrey's journey toward that goal continues with a busy end to his junior-golf career. He'll first play in the Terra Cotta Invitational April 4-6 in Naples, Fla., before also competing in the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley and the AJGA Thunderbird International Junior – a "pretty full schedule for spring," said Tom Humphrey.

After that will be his high-school graduation in the beginning of June. He'll have one day to celebrate with his family before he turns his focus back to golf. His summer schedule will include the AJGA FootJoy Invitational and the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions. He also hopes to qualify again for the U.S. Amateur.

It's a busy schedule, but one Humphrey embraces.

“I love the game," he said, "the whole experience that goes with it and all of the great places you can travel to.”
