Kent State seizes 6th-straight MAC title
Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith led Kent State to its sixth-straight Mid-American Conference Championship Sunday, making conference history.
The Golden Flashes faltered on the final day of the 72-hole event at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., but maintained a 10-stroke lead at 3-over 1,155. Kent State, the No. 35 team in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, set the MAC record for most consecutive conference titles.
Conners became the 23rd player in Kent State history to win the individual title at 11-under 277 and Taylor Pendrith finished in second at 6 under. Conners and Pendrith were named Co-Players of the Year.
"Our score wasn't particularly good today, but we had some really good rounds this week," said Conners in a release. "We'll try to take the positives from that and gain some confidence from the week. We are very happy with winning the MAC and motivated to keep playing some more golf."
Kent State took complete controlling after carding a tournament-low 282 on Saturday. Conners led the charge with a 7-under 65 that included five birdies and an ace on the par-3 12th.
Akron finished second at 13 over. The Zips placed Charlie Bull and Ryan Harris in the top five individually.
Toledo (16 over), Eastern Michigan (25 over) and Miami (40 over) rounded out the top five.
