McDowell will miss BMW PGA to be with pregnant wife

Graeme McDowell and his wife Kristin are expecting their first child together. The couple married in October.

Graeme McDowell will skip next week's BMW PGA Championship in England to spend time at his U.S. home with his pregnant wife.

George O'Grady, chief executive of the European Tour, says McDowell called him to say that he would remain at home in Orlando, Fla., with his wife Kristin, who is expecting their first child this summer and will not be able to travel.

It will be the first time in 12 years that McDowell, 34, the 2010 U.S. Open champion from Northern Ireland, will miss the European Tour's flagship event.

McDowell's status for a spot on Europe's team for the Sept. 26-28 Ryder Cup is uncertain as he ranks 20th on the European points list. He is 16th in the Official World Golf Ranking. This season, McDowell has posted five top-10 finishes in nine starts on Tour.
