Julien Brun, a junior out of TCU, earned the right as an individual to advance to the NCAA Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club on May 17 as his teamed failed to qualify for one of the five spots. Down the stretch the team went 4 over on the final hole compared to UCLA’s even par on the difficult par-4.

“It’s upsetting,” Brun said. “We came to the last hole with a shot advantage and came up a little short.”

Instead, Brun has earned and accepted a sponsor exemption into the PGA Tour’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial this week via his victory as the men’s individual champion at the Spirit Invitational in November and will play in that instead.

Brun said he and his TCU teammates get to play at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, every week as its one of the team’s home courses.

“I’m excited,” Brun said of playing in his first PGA Tour event. “I know the course pretty well . . . Playing in front of the crowds should be fun.”

Brun will play amateur events this summer and return to the Fort Worth-based school in September. He will graduate in December with a degree in psychology. Brun will then play Web.com Tour Q-School and, depending the status he earns, will decide whether to come back to school for the spring season or turn professional.

Though its Brun’s first PGA Tour event, he has already notched a victory on the Challenge Tour in 2012 at the Allianz Golf Open Toulouse in his home country of France.
