Volvik DS77 golf ball

Among the manufacturers who are aggressively marketing golf balls in an array of colors for U.S. golfers is Volvik.

Volvik is one of the few manufacturers to aggressively promote the compression rating of its golf balls. The DS77 takes its name from its compression, which is 77.

The ideal driver clubhead speed for this ball, Volvik says, is 70 to 90 mph. The concept is to focus on extra distance for golfers with medium swing speeds. To generate as much yardage as possible from those speeds, Volvik has included all its distance-enhancing features into this ball. Side spin, for example, is minimized to accentuate distance.

This two-piece ball has a high velocity, DualSpin core to promote less driver spin while still allowing greenside spin. The number of dimples is 372.

Available in orange, yellow and white.

Cost: $22.99 per dozen.
