Friday, May 23, 2014
The AJGA’s Thunderbird International Junior will kick off a summer filled of events on the AJGA junior circuit May 23-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor Course in Scottsdale, Ariz.
As the 15th annual event, the Thunderbird will once again invite an international mix of boys and girls between ages 12-18 to play in the 54-hole stroke play event.
Between the boys and girls divisions, 17 countries will be represented at the event in the 78-player format. For the United States alone, over 10 different states will be represented.
Three past champions will attend the 2014 event, hoping to repeat as champion, which has never been done in the boys division.
Jorge Garcia of Venezuela, the 2013 boys champion, will return to defend his title while competing against Brad Dalke, who won the tournament in 2011 to become the tournament's youngest champion.
In the girls division, Nicole Morales of New York will return to defend her title. She will also attempt to join Yueer (Cindy) Feng (2009-10) as the only repeat champion.
