Oklahoma City University needed a playoff to capture its second consecutive NAIA Women’s Championship.
Oklahoma City and Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, Ga.) tied at 57-over 1,209 after 72 holes May 23 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
It was the seventh national title for Oklahoma City, which won five consecutive crowns in 2005-09 along with the ’13 title.
Down two shots entering the final hole with the final golfers, Oklahoma City’s Elia Folch made eagle to force the extra hole. SCAD’s Alazne Urizar missed her birdie effort to win the team title. She settled for par.
In the one-hole playoff, the Stars played 1 under (birdie and three pars), while the Bees shot 1 over (birdie, par and two bogeys).
Urizar won the individual title with a national championship-record 3-over 291. Folch (4-over 292) finished runner-up for the second consecutive year. SCAD’s Sofia Molinaro was third at 6-over 294.
