Maddie Szeryk railed off five consecutive birdies in the middle of her round Sunday en route to seizing sole possession of the lead at the Thunderbird International Junior in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Szeryk, who came into the second day of the 54-hole tournament in a three-way tie for the lead, shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday. She now sits at 5 under for the tournament at Grayhawk Golf Club, two strokes ahead of Andrea Lee and Kristen Gillman, who are tied for second.

Szeryk, a Texas A&M signee, birdied holes seven through 11, including two birdie 4s on the par-5 seventh and 11th holes. She is the No. 16 player in Golfweek's Junior Rankings.

Angel Yin is in fourth at 2 under and Lilia Vu is in fifth at even par. Defending champion Nicole Morales is tied for 22nd at 9 over.
