Adam Hadwin birdied the first six holes on his back nine Thursday at River Run Country Club en route to carding a 9-under 63 and grabbing the opening-round lead at the Chiquita Classic.

Hadwin leads John Peterson by two shots in Davidson, N.C., the second of four stops in the Web.com Tour Finals. The Canadian made nine birdies total and went bogey-free in the first round.

The Web.com Tour Finals field consists of Nos. 26-75 on Web.com money list and Nos. 126-200 in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings. The top 25 on the money list following the four playoff events earn PGA Tour cards for the 2014-15 season.

Twenty-five cards have already been given to the top earners on the Web.com Tour during the regular season. Those players are playing for priority.

Hadwin already has his PGA Tour card locked up for next season, however, after finishing fourth on the Web.com Tour's regular-season money list. He is seventh on the Web.com Tour Finals money list entering this event after missing the cut last week.

Last week's winner, Bud Cauley, shot 1-under 71 and is currently in a tie for 45th. Cauley retained his PGA Tour card with his victory at the Hotel Fitness Championship.
