Mo Martin during Friday's second round of the 2014 Women's British Open at Royal Birkdale.

SOUTHPORT, England – They say the cream rises in major championships. The $3 million Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale is doing its best to disprove that old adage.

Among the notables limping out of Southport after missing the 6-over-par cut are Michelle Wie, Karrie Webb, Yani Tseng, Stephanie Meadow, Na Yeon Choi, Catriona Matthew, Se Ri Pak and Caroline Hedwall, as well as Cristie Kerr after a WD – all potential winners at the start of the week.

In their place we have Mo Martin, So Yeon Ryu, Beatriz Recari, Julieta Granada and Sun-Ju Ahn.

Martin leads at 6 ...

Quick poll: How many of you are betting against World No. 1 Adam Scott fresh off a PGA Tour win? Well, among our senior writers, one in three.

And if there's a good week to do such a thing, it's when the previous week's European Tour winner (Rory McIlroy) and the reigning four major champions (Jason Dufner, Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose and Bubba Watson) are in the field.

With that in mind, here are our experts' picks for the Tour's 2014 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.

Matt Kuchar has three top-15 finishes in his last three starts at Innisbrook.

A week after the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott registered on the radars of many, it'll be Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar and Graham DeLaet that receive the love at the Valspar Championship.

That's mostly due to the tight quarters of Innisbrook, where ball striking and keeping it in play is at a premium.

Here's a look at the picks of our staff experts:

Jim McCabe, senior writer

Rory McIlroy, Charl Schwartzel and Brooks Koepka are three names mentioned often among the expert picks to win or contend at this week's Honda Classic.

Conspicuously absent? Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

McIlroy (who WD'd at last year's Honda Classic, citing wisdom-tooth pain) and Schwartzel are favored to win by two experts apiece this week, with Koepka in a group of expected contenders that also includes Rickie Fowler and Graeme McDowell.

Where do they all fit in? Take a look at this week's picks:

The field is stacked and this is truly the "anything-can-happen" tournament of the year, as match play seems to even the playing field in golf.

With Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott taking the WGC-Accenture Match Play off, a bit of intrigue might be lost, but the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Ian Poulter should provide some drama worth watching.
