Annika Sorenstam was thrilled to work with the Haskins Commission to create The ANNIKA Award to similarly honor the best collegiate female golfers. College golf meant a lot to her – it really helped get her career going in the right direction.

The Golf Association of Michigan, founded in 1919, is the governing body for amateur golf in the state. Golfstat was a program written in 1984 by Mark Laesch to keep his own golf statistics. A friend of his suggested that Illinois State University might be interested in keeping statistics for their players the same way he was (positive & negative statistics). They used the service and liked it. During the first year, he charged them 25 cents a round.
The next year, Mark sent out about 100 letters to other schools, but I only got one other school to sign up. However, that school was Oklahoma State, and when they won the National Championship a couple of years later, Golfstat was off and running in the statistics business and have proceeded to grow from that point.

Established in 1995, the purpose of the Tour is to provide amateurs of all ages, sexes, and handicaps the opportunity to compete in stroke-play golf tournaments on a regular basis in their local area. The Tour concludes with a National Tour Championship in which top players in each flight test their skills against other amateurs from around the country. Through this competition, the Golfweek Tour promotes the sport of golf by providing an atmosphere of friendly, fair, and well managed competition for amateur golfers in the pursuit of excellence.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) is Canada’s most-played major junior golf tour and is run exclusively by PGA of Canada Golf Professionals. The MJT is proud to play a role in developing young players, including several Canadian National Champions, many Future Links and Provincial Champions, as well as numerous graduates that have gone on to successful golf careers as Professional Tour Players or as Club Professionals. The MJT is also focused on providing opportunities for young Canadians to learn how to golf, introduces players as young as four years old to the game via free instructional clinics, and helps out alumni as they progress from junior to professional golfer with our Professional Development Fund. In addition, the MJT encourages young players to further their education with scholarship awards and offers advice on admissions, scholarship opportunities and post-secondary exposure. The MJT has become the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada!
