Ping's newest irons designed for better players were first spotted on the PGA Tour at The Barclays at Liberty National Golf Club.
This view is what most accomplished players like to see at address: a clean look and thin topline.
A tungsten weight positioned in the toe of the S55 counterbalances the weight of the hosel and shifts the sweet spot into the center of the face.
A weight cartridge, positioned behind the face, allows fitters to adjust the swing weight of the S55. It's softer than the weights found in the S56 irons, which helps to create a softer feel at impact, according to Ping.
Because the center of gravity in the S55 long irons has been lowered, the lofts could be made one degree stronger.
