Martin Kaufmann

Managing Editor / The Golf Life

Martin Kaufmann joined Golfweek in January 2003 as a business writer, and has been managing editor of the magazine’s Golf Life section since 2006. He was born in Baltimore and grew up in old Memorial Stadium watching the great Orioles teams of the ’70s and early ’80s. Kaufmann graduated from Towson State University with largely pointless degrees in English and Psychology, and subsequently has worked for anyone who was foolhardy enough to offer him employment.

• First set of clubs: Hand-me-down PGA irons
• Favorite golf memory: Playing Machrihanish in intermittent rain with a former club champion serving as caddie.
• Dream vacation: Spending March in Phoenix playing golf and watching spring training games every day.
• Best golf shot seen live: Watching 2005 U.S. Mid-Am champion Kevin Marsh hit driver off the deck from 265 yards for eagle at the par-5 third on the Engh Course at the Club at Black Rock. Even Black Rock resident Rich Beem said it might have been the best shot he ever saw.
