Miss. St. wins BancorpSouth; Newton edges Fox

No. 32 Mississippi State won the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Reunion Golf & Country Club in Madison, Miss. The Bulldogs shots 18-under 846 to finish 15 shots ahead of No. 96 Central Arkansas.

Mississippi State shot scores of 281-279-286. It has two wins and a runner-up in its past three starts. This was Mississippi State’s third win of the year; it also won the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate and Auburn Tiger Invitational.

Central Arkansas’ James Newton won the individual title by shooting 10-under 206 (67-67-72), two shots better than Chattanooga’s Steven Fox. Fox, the U.S. Amateur champion, was making his final collegiate start before next week’s Masters.

Mississippi State’s Axel Boasson and Joe Sakulpolphaisan finished T-3 at 7-under 209.
