Piccio wins frost-shortened Bulldog Individual

Florida doesn’t even have to enter a team in an event to come out with the individual medalist. In six tournaments this season in which at least one Florida player has teed it up, a Gator has come away with at least a share of the individual title. Senior Mia Piccio earned that honor Saturday at the Bulldog Individual Championship. Piccio shot 3-under 69 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., site of this spring’s NCAA Championship.
The Gators won twice as a team in the fall, and last week won the Florida Challenge, a meeting of five of the top schools in the Sunshine State. After that event, Florida head coach Emily Bastel noted that she expected big things from Piccio this spring. The senior is third in scoring on the Florida roster, behind Isabelle Lendl and Camilla Hedberg, Nos. 4 and 5 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, respectively. Piccio is ranked No. 40.
Piccio finished two shots ahead of Furman’s Laura Wearn. Annie Park, who last month arrived at USC a semester early, was third at even-par 72.
The event was shortened from 36 holes to 18 holes after a morning frost delay.
