Match Play: Sean Martin's third-round predictions
Friday, February 22, 2013
With another wacky day on Friday, our Sean Martin does his best to prognosticate Saturday's action at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship . . .
Graeme McDowell def. Shane Lowry, 2 and 1: Lowry can't beat two major winners from Northern Ireland in one week, can he? He's already the first No. 64 seed to advance to the second round.
Bubba Watson def. Jason Day, 1 up: Watson has a good track record at Dove Mountain. It's made for big hitters.
Robert Garrigus def. Fredrik Jacobson, 3 and 2: See above.
Matt Kuchar def. Nicolas Colsaerts, 3 and 2: I'm breaking rank here, but Kuchar is just too steady. That makes him tough to beat.
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano def. Webb Simpson, 2 and 1: Crazier things have happened this week, right?
Hunter Mahan def. Martin Kaymer, 4 and 3: No one's won consecutive Match Plays since Tiger Woods, so that is a tall ask, but Mahan has been impressive this week. He hasn't gone past the 15th hole in either match.
Scott Piercy def. Steve Stricker, 2 and 1: Long-hitting, uber-confident Scott Piercy continues to roll.
Tim Clark def. Ian Poulter, 3 and 1: Clark continues to find a way on a course that you wouldn't think suits his game.
