Report: Blanks arrested with gun in bag at airport
Sunday, July 14, 2013
PGA Tour golfer Kris Blanks was arrested Sunday at Palm Beach International Airport when security officers found that his carry-on bag contained a gun with ammunition in its magazine, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Blanks, who finished T-4 at Q-School last year to earn his card in the wake of a shoulder injury, has played just once on Tour this year; he missed the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Deputies said Blanks told them he had forgotten to take the gun out of his bag after returning home from a previous trip; he was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and released that morning on $3,000 bail, the Post reported.
Blanks posted on Twitter that day about a "great charity event for Duke Cancer Institute" at Trump International in West Palm Beach. Today he tweeted from his account, @krisblanks: "Heading home from DC. Had a great time helping raise money for cancer research today. Capital city pro-am. Cool part of the job!!!" No post was visible about the arrest.
Blanks' best finish on Tour is second at the 2010 Puerto Rico Open; he won the Web.com Tour's 2008 Bank of America Open. Born in Warner Robins, Ga., he played at Huntingdon College and lives in Jupiter.
