Sunday, July 14, 2013
Will Wilcox carded a 12-under 59 in the final round of the Web.com Tour's Utah Championship on Sunday at Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah.
Wilcox birdied his final two holes, Nos. 8-9, to become the fourth player to shoot 59 in a Web.com Tour event. Notah Begay III, Doug Dunakey and Jason Gore are the other three. Chad Collins nearly shot 59 Friday, but came up short with a 60.
A former Alabama-Birmingham player, Wilcox shot 7-under 29 on the back nine, making birdie at his first four holes and then notching an eagle at the par-5 17th. In all, he recorded 10 birdies and an eagle.
The performance moved Wilcox to 21 under for the tournament. He's the clubhouse leader, but Ashley Hall and Steven Alker are also 21 under with multiple holes left to play.
Said former pro Craig Perks via his Twitter account, @cajunkiwi: "Will Wilcox just shot the 4th 59 in @WebDotComTour History. Class act by @JasonGore59 to stick around and congratulate him. #HolyCow!!!!!"
Wilcox won the South Georgia Classic earlier this season, one of two top-10s he's recorded in 12 starts on the Web.com Tour in 2013. He made his 10th straight cut this week, as well.
