Final-round 66 lifts Travis to Idaho Am win
Wednesday, July 17, 2013
Ty Travis shot a final round 5-under par 66, matching the week’s low round, to earn a five-stroke victory over Jordan Skyles in the Idaho Amateur.
Travis, a junior at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, shot 67-68-66 and finished at 12-under 201 on the par-71 layout at Jack Pot Golf Club in Jack Pot, Nev.
Travis carded 6 birdies on his way to a first-round 67 and never fell from the lead.
“He (Travis) was on his game the entire week,” said Vanessa Sinclair, Championship Director for the Idaho Golf Association. Travis had told her earlier in the week that “he felt his wedge play was on point.” His five-stroke winning margin, including 17 birdies, confirmed that fact.
“Winning the Idaho Amateur is the highlight of my summer,” Travis said. ". . . This gives me great momentum heading into the U.S. Amateur qualifier later in the month.”
Travis, Idaho’s No. 1-ranked player in his age group from 2006-2009, also had qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2010 with a two round total of 142.
